2242 error (password expired) for unsecured share

Here's a good one:

2 Windows 2000 workstations have been connecting to an
unsecured share (not password protected) on a 3rd Win 2000
system in a small workgroup for about 2 months; now those
two clients both get "System error 2242 has occurred.
The password of this user has expired." All three systems
are using the same username and password for their Windows
logon (and that account is set not to expire.)

Any thoughts?
