If the machines are domain-joined you make one of them "trusted for
delegation" in the AD and access the files remotely.
There was also a DPAPI bug in Win2k that allowed remote access if the server
is not in a domain. I wouldn't count on this behavior, though - I believe
we fixed the bug in SP5.
