Hi Dave. The web sharing folder permissions are the same as those defined for
the home directory in IIS management, but apply to the web sharing folder which
is also available to internet users. Sharing permissions are for other network
users as you suspected and only apply to network access, and have no bearing on
internet access users. The security tab is for ntfs permissions, which are
permissions applied to anyone accessing those files/folders from anywhere -
local, network, or internet. If both share and ntfs permissions apply to a
user, the most restrictive setting will apply. If a user is a member of multiple
groups, the most permissive ntfs permission applied to a group will apply to the
user. If any group that the user is a member of has a deny permission, the user
will be denied access unless the deny permission is inherited in which case an
explicit allow permission will override it. Be sure to check out the IIS
lockdown tool to help set secure permissions for IIS and visit TechNet security
for procedures on securing an IIS Server. -- Steve
