Good Day,
I cannot delete a certain folder in my new Windows 2000 Server! Here are the
following sequence of events.
1. I removed two hard identical hard drives with a Promise Technologies RAID
controller card from an old Windows 2000 member server. I did not alter the
original NTFS permissions from the volume of the RAID1 mirror. The RAID1
volume holds the old NTFS permissions.
2. I simply transfered the two hard drives without the RAID controller card
to my new Windows 2000 member server. The operating system automatically
recognized the original volume. The new Windows 2000 server has the
operating system on volume C, the CD-ROM drive as volume D and the RAID1
drive as volume E.
3. I executed dcpromo.exe to promote the new Windows 2000 server to a domain
controller.
4. There were several old folders belonging to previous users in the old
Windows 2000 member server. I was successful in deleting all but one of
those user folders. My attempts to delete the stubborn folder generates an
error indicating that a file is in use. My access is denied The old NTFS
permissions have the old security ID numbers associated with the previous
users.
5. I adjusted the new NTFS permissions at the root of the new RAID1 volume
(E:) by including the local administrator, domain administrator and my user
account. My user account is simply a member of the local administrator
group. I checked the box to propogate the parent permissions to child
objects. The process is successful except for the stubborn folder.
6. I also adjusted the new NTFS permissions at the root of the stubborn
folder by including the local administrator, domain administrator and my
user account.
I can easily rename the troublesome folder and I can easily see the two
subfolders within the troublesome folder, but I remain unsuccessful.
Does anyone have any approaches?
Thanks,
Mark S.
