Sorry Mike, this won't work, I missed part of your post (some details).
One notebook is synchronized with domain, so that's OK. On the other you can
use old password till you can connect it to the domain when it will get
synchronized...
If you need to access files on the other PC maybe you can create local user
or try mapping hard drive by typing in command line:
net use x: \\myotherlaptop\c$ /user:domain\user password
x: = your mapped hard drive
myotherlaptop = Your laptop name
c$ = sharename (it can be c$ or any other share)
domain = your domain name
user = your domain username
password = your old password
