If you are able to access the shares, then either the account you
are logged on to on the local machine is an account that has the same name
and password as an account that has access to the shares on the server
[either domain or local] or possibly the guest account is enabled on the
server. If you are denied access, then you are probably logged on as an
account that has the same name as one that has access to the share, but with
a different password. If you are logged on with an account name that does
not have access, then I believe you are prompted for credentials. I am not
sure what service pack you are using. I "think" that this access behavior
changed a bit with service pack 3. Enabling log on events on the server may
provide some clues as to how you are or are not being authenticated. ---
