Public Folders - Permissions

Good Day to you all,

Having exported the folders and mail items from Exchange 5.5 to .pst files,
I imported
the hierarchy into Exchange 2000. I was changing permissions on one of the
sub folders for some complained that they could only create & delete mail
items and not
edit. Through Exchange Manager I amended 'Client permissions' to allow a
security group to have 'editor' permissions on the folder. The problem was
not resolved.

I then admittedly attempted to reconfigure permissions using Windows
Explorer and also Microsoft Outllook Returning to Exchange manager to change
permissions I received an error message 'Invalid Window Handle'. I looked on
the web for aswers and found a microsoft article KB 270905.

While following the instructions messages were poping up about permissions
need 'sorting' or resetting. After completing the instructions and
reassigning permissions
through Exchange Manager successfully, the problem did not appear to be
resolved from the client perspective.

The above was my initial problem. In my endeavours to correctly set the
permissions, I, as 'Administrator', on the server machine that is hosting
Exchange, lost ownership
of the windows explorer folder named 'PUBLIC FOLDERS' which is located in
the special exchange mounting. The 'SYSTEM' now owns this folder. I appear
not to be able
to amend this and receive message boxes telling me that I as Administrator,
can only view permissions and owner details. However in exchange, I as
Administrator, am the owner.
Confusing!!.

I believe this fact may have also brought about new problems with regards to
updating or inserting items into a public folder with the default root.

Is it possible to regain ownership of the 'PUBLIC FOLDERS' folder in Windows
Explorer?
Is it neccessary to reset the permissions on the folders and sub folders in
order to, through Exchange Manager, add the group and allow 'editor'
permissions
to allow for editing of items created.

Apologies if after all of this you have lost interest!

Kind Regards
Paul.
