Alex... you have to ask yourself first an foremost, what business are you in and
what are the "best practicies" for your industry. For my industry I would never
set up Internet printing without setting up some sort of encrypted tunnel for
that data to stream out though. You really need to do a "risk analysis". How
large a firm..... do you really want to allow anyone to print over the
internet? Again, make that password long and hard to crack. And remember....
you now have another possible opening into your network besides through your
firewall as that printer has to be outside of it in your DMZ.
What data will be printing/streaming across?
What business do you work in?
What privacy laws are in place in your location that may affect the way you
transmit that data?
If you are in financial industry - Graham-Biley-Leach kicks in, if medical
industry, HIPAA kicks in. In those industry you had better have that
printing/data transmission going across an encrypted pipe.
Port to open for IPP is 631

"IPP security and firewall notes
If you to allow anyone on the Internet to print to a NetportExpress print server
using Internet Printing Protocol (IPP), you may want to limit access to the
print server. [Yeah, Like DUH]
Passwords
You can set administrator and printer passwords to limit access to the print
server. The administrator password is required to change the print server's
configuration. The printer password is required to print. For information on
setting passwords, see Print server security. "
