We have refrained from shutting off the "messenger"
service on our server but continue to get advertising or
spam like messages on our desktop from time to time. Is
there any danger of local programs requiring this service
or can we turn it off with no ill effects. This machine
is purely a web server and does not need to communicate
with other machines locally.

Thanks for any insight into this problem.
