XP local profile and Win2K domain security

We have a user who needs to have special access to a
share on a Windows 2000 member server. This server is
part of a domain, as is the user who wants to access this
share.

When the user logs into his local XP Pro machine, he is
logging on to that machine locally as opposed to entering
the actual domain he is part of. His username and
password locally however, are the same as his domain
login name and password

Is there a way to include the local user of that PC in
the security area of the WIndows 2000 share?

I have tried to include the machine name plus the user
name (ex... "Drafting\wdix") in the securtity access area
(drafting is the name of the local XP machine), but I
just get an error message back that says the following...

"The object Drafting\wdix is not valid because only
objects from domains that appear in the "Look In" box are
allowed."

The drop down list in the 'Look In' area does not include
the machine 'drafting' so I assuming this is why I can't
add drafting\wdix.

How can you give a local profile access to a domain
resource?

Thanks,

Brad
