"SELF" Permissions question

Recently my company has run into some problems trying to
delete appointments and some public folder problems as
well. After some investigation we noticed that the "SELF"
permission was missing from users permissions and once we
added that permission everything seemed to be okay.

A little background here; my company migrated from NT 4.0
and E5.5 to Win2K and E2K and we've had this problem on
the users that migrated. When we create new users this
problem does not occur.

My question is this. Is the "SELF" permission a
permission that is an out of the box permission for users
or is it something that is added after installation.
Secondly, where can I find out more information about
this particular information? I've looked on Technet andI
found a snippet of information about "SELF" but nothing
to in depth.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
