<ctrl>,<alt>,<del> -- not operative

I recently inherited a laptop with Windows 2000 Server on
it. When the initial screen
requesting "<ctrl>,<alt>,<del>" is visible, and when the
three are pressed, nothing happens. Any help would be
appreciated.
