These messages use the Windows "Messenger Service" which "Transmits net send
and Alerter service messages between clients and servers. This service is
not related to Windows Messenger. If this service is stopped, Alerter
messages will not be transmitted...."
It can be disabled through Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services
then look for Messenger. Right click on it and change the startup type to
manual (or disabled) and click the stop button. Click OK and you won't get
the messages anymore.
You could also block port 135 at your firewall (if you have one), but this
could lead to some other problems and you should research before you do it.
It also wont necessarily prevent it from happening again, just make it
harder.
Hope that helps,
- Andreas
P.S. My appologies if this shows up twice, I've been having some problems
with my newsgroup server.
