At first I thought it wasn't working properly. When I would open a Word
document saved to the root of the shared drive, I didn't get the "(Read
Only)" message at the top of the window. I assumed that I had full control
of the file. However, I modified the document and tried to save it. It did
not allow me to. That's just what I want to happen. This way, they are
forced to save it in the correct location.
1. To start things out, I'll take ownership of the entire shared directory.
Then I'll give "Everyone" full access to the entire directory by setting it
to full control and clicking on the "Reset permissions on all child objects
and enable propagation of inheritable permissions".
2. After this is completed, I'll remove all rights except for Read &
Execute, List Folder Contents, and Read. This sets the Special Permissions
to allow Traverse Folders / Execute File, List Folder / Read Data, Read
Attributes, Read Extended Attributes, and Read Permissions.
3. Then I'll add "Everyone" and set This Folder Only to allow Create Folders
/ Append Data.
4. Then I'll add "Everyone" and set Subfolders and Files Only to allow
everything.
Thanks for the help.
