It sounds to me like you weren't really logging in using a local account
after all. You would only have been logging in as a local account if you
manually changed the domain from the work domain to the local computer name.
If you log into a domain, that's using the domain account. Now that your
computer is disjoined from the domain, you need to know a local ID and
password, preferably for the Administrator account. [BTW disjoining from a
domain and not knowing the local admin password is a common mistake, I've
done it too.]
