If the school was attempting to turn out automotive engineers specializing
in anti-theft technologies then you had better believe it. Only it wouldn't
be for PE credit. You speak of dolts, yet seem to believe that having
network administrators never experience real-world applications before being
sent out into the workplace? Admittedly the specifics of the assignment may
leave a bit to be desired, but I would rather have my credit card numbers
and medical histories safeguarded by students who were actually challenged
to find and exploit known weaknesses under the supervision of a qualified
instructor than by people who once read in a book that "sometimes bad people
do bad things to networks - but good administrators should never know what
kinds of attacks are possible."
What about you?
