you do not say which operating systems you are running
your servers on etc... I assume you are at least up to
date and as such are running windows 2000
if this is the case you can download the Microsoft
baseline security analyzer and see how secure most of
your things are.
the next thing would be to carefully look at the wholes
it shows up and decide if they need to me closed off.
I would tehn run a posrt scanner/sniffer etc and see what
ports seem to be open from the outside (it that is where
the threat is from)
and then ad a very nasty set of policies and profiles to
the professor's user account and l.ock down his own pc
TIGHT!! to show him what it feels like to work in a
SECURE environment and see how he responds.... but then
I'm a very confrontational kind of guy. if I can verify
your Microsoft certification credentials you can always
join our security chat group if you want. (meant for
Security + trainers)
there are a lot of websites out there that can tell you a
lot more about this but the msbsa is as good a place as
any to start.....
