I ran into the same errors after Norton 2003 removed the irc.trojan
virus. After long searching, I found there were two explorer.exe
instances in the task manager. After reviewing the registry, there
was an entry for explorer.exe running from the C:\WINNT\Fonts dir as
an explorer task in the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
after searching my machine, I found there were two files in the fonts
directory that shouldn't have been there: explorer.exe and
explorer.dat.
I am not sure how or why they were placed there - I'm assuming from
the IRC.trojan virus. I deleted the files, the reg key, and
everything seems back to normal.
Best of luck.
