domain users mysteriously denied access

Our windows 2000 network is suddenly denying access to
domain members with the message "the local policy of this
system does not allow you to logon interactively".
This does not happen to all users, though the number
appears to be steadily growing. Administrator account is
affected, on server and clients.
Some automatic updates are the only known changes in the
period leading up to this problem.
Help!?
