NTFS Read-only settings

I have a share with (what I thought were) read-only for
one group1, modify for group2. group1 were able to copy
files to the share and subfolders, but that's all. My
question is why does the permissions dialog say
Read&Execute/List/Read but under advanced | view it
includes Create files/write data?
