I can only help with where your not able to get with a browser.
from the Pro boxs run pathping in the cmd window !

see where it is not getting. ping anything on the web.

then run netstat -r for a routing table , see what gives !

are you ruuning a domain on w2k Adv Srv ?
if so , run dcdiag /v on the server
on the pro box run netdiag /v
 you will need the windows 2000 ( sp# ) support tools installed for theses
