Internet Connection

After installing security patches , client Win2000 Pro PC
lost network and internet connection.Checked ip address,
IP is changed automatically to a starange number. CHanged
IP back to previous address. Network conncetions are fine,
but no internet connection. Network has DSL line.
Any idea, why all of sudden IP is changed and connot
access internet.
