Hi Chris
Two things that I see that are major problems are:
1. The 169.254.x.x number means that your server is set for DHCP (to get an
IP automatically) and it didn't get one. The 169.254.x.x number is what we
call the APIPA (Auto IP Private Addressing) number. Your system will give
you that number if it cannot locate a DHCP server. You can circumvent this
by assigning one manually in TCPIP properties. If you are the system
administrator, you can choose a number based on the subnet being used in
your organization. Otherwise, contact your system adminstrator.
2. There are no DBS servers assigned. This is probably in your case, a
direct result of not obtaining an IP address from a DHCP server. Most
administrators will assign a DNS address within the DHCP Scope of IP
addresses that have been configured to give out to client machines and will
be assigned along along with the acquisition of the IP address.
So when it "cannot find the domain" within an AD network, that is usually a
direct result of not having a DNS server listed in your TCPIP properties, In
your case, it is probably a direct result of not acquiring an IP address.
Unless you know your network, can pick an IP, but also just as important,
that you have a DNS server that AD is using. If there is a DNS server
installed on this machine, you can use it, but I would check with the Sys
Admin first, unless of course, you are the system admin.
Hope that helps.
