Roaming Profiles user enviroment error

Running win2k pro SP3 on my clients with a NT4 SP5 domain.

Setting up user profiles using the

\\servername\profiles\%username% path in the new user
setup.

I am getting a User Enviroment error at login: "The system
has attempted to load or store a file into the registry
but the specified file is not a registry file format.
