It sounds like the PCs aren't on the domain. They should be. If they were,
when they logon, they receive (for W2K) a TGT from the KDC, and (for W9x) a
ST? (session ticket it the effective name, and I believe the real one).
This can be passed from client to client as the credentials that you get
resources on. This is the philosophy of Single Sign On (SSO).

Use domain credentials in the form domainname\username
Use domain password
