administrator Password recovery

My son had a notebook and he forgot his admin passwords:
one to access a notebook with windows 2000 professional
and the other PC with windows XP. Any hint is appreciated
on how to access the PCs given that we don't have a
recovery disks. Thanks so much in advance.
