There are a lot of good firewalls for Win2000, but I"m not sure which if any
of them protect against DoS. Most of the personal firewalls out there are
probably going to choke if a ton of traffic is sent to it, maybe even faster
than a PC without firewall software.

If you desire DoS protection, you may need to upgrade to a medium-level
hardware device [or look for a linux firewall on an old 486 PC that has
these capabilities]. However, DoS attacks against your typical home user is
I think extremely rare, so I wouldn't necessarily worry about it. Most home
users don't. Far more common attacks against home users are those that
include remote control of the computer to add FTP services, deface web
pages, snoop files, sniff passwords, etc. and your average firewall should
give you enough protection against these.

www.sygate.com is free, so is www.agnitum.com and www.zonealarm.com Other
firewall options including linux firewalls that run from boot CDs are listed
