Hello and thank you for reading this, I am getting ready to rebuild a server
due to infection. This server is currently my only GC/OM/etc... on my
domain ( I know, as soon as I am past this issue I will definitely have
another one) I need to completely rebuild this box due to infection (local
attack). Can I just rebuild this server from scratch, then bring back
online with the same name and IP? What about the FSMO roles and GC issues,
will they just be re-recognized once I bring it back up, or will there be
problems. My users are not working this weekend, so email is not an issue.
I can take the servers all down for a few hours with no impact, but need to
ensure that everything comes back the way it was before I do this.
I am currently attempting to promote another DC that is in another town, but
still on my domain, but am having connectivity issues. I can not promote
another DC in my office due to some ACL issues that campus security is
working on this weekend. So, I would like to just wipe and reload the box,
but am worried about the ramifications once it comes back online. Thank you
for any advice.
This is a second post for additional information, Rich helped me with his
first post, but I can not currently promote a DC.
