If the problem is just the permissions on the file, log in with
administrator privileges and right-click the folder, properties, security,
Owner to take ownership of the files and all subdirectories. Then, click
OK, OK, and go back in to grant yourself permissions.

Administrator can always take ownership of any files on the system and then
grant herself permission to access the files.

If the problem is that you used EFS encryption, you may be out of luck,
unless you have a floppy disk that has a backup of your encryption keys. I
think XP makes this floppy for you when you install it, but I'm not sure you
can use this floppy if you aren't running XP any more.

Giving the full blue screen error message would help us troubleshoot the XP
boot problem [or better yet, search www.microsoft.com/support and/or
www.google.com/advanced_group_search for the error message]. It could be a
failing hard drive or a hardware failure somewhere.
