System blocked on beginning for 5 minutes

I've win2k with all update installed, but after the installation of service
pack 3 I encontered a big problem. After loading the desktop, icons don't
appear and i cannot do anything for 5-6 minutes! the service register say
somethig about violation time of function open.
What can i do?
