The picture isn't very pretty, I'm afraid. There are 3 ways to have users
do a pseudo-logon before the actual logon:
    - You can have a BIOS password, which would be checked when the machine
boots but before the OS loads. This password can't be passed into the OS.
    - Or you could use SYSKEY in password mode, which would prompt for a
password before a user could log on. This can't be used to log on a user.
    - Or there is the messy business of writing your own GINA (don't even
think about this if you're looking for a simple solution).

If you will always be logging on as the same user, you can set up autologon
and use a BIOS password or SYSKEY. Otherwise, if you feel like spending a
bunch of dev time on something that will only work on Win2k (not newer OS
revs), search for GINA on the MSDN site for a tutorial on writing a
customized GINA.
