Seriously, though, I've had similar and worse things happen with system
icons, and it is at least annoying, at worst confusing. The best thing you
can TRY is tweakui v1.33. There's a tab called "Repair" which hasn't
but a few things in it, but one is "Rebuild Icons" and it may or may not
save your ass. Get it from http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/tweakui
or http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/
Networking/NTTweakUI.asp

It's gotten me out of a bind for more than just that, so give it a try. If
that don't work,
give the Micro$oft folk a good lambasting!
