From what you described I do not see anything that would have led
to a password change, apparently you were trying to create a new network
connection which you probably did not need to do anyhow if both your
computers already have nic cards properly installed in them. My guess is
your problem is that you are trying to log onto the local machine instead of
the domain. Try doing the control-alt-delete again to bring up the logon
screen. In the lower right hand corner there should be an options box that
you may need to select. You should normally have the option to log onto the
domain or the local machine (whatever the computer name is) by clicking on
the little down arrow in the box next to "log onto". If that option is not
there then you need to click the options box to allow multiple logon
options. It sounds like you normally log onto the domain - not the local
machine. There probably is a password to log onto the local machine that was
put there when Windows 2000 was installed onto your laptop. You probably can
still log onto your machine using domain logon even though you are not
connected to the domain because of cached log on credentials - but it is
possible it will not work depending on how policies were set on your domain
by the administrators and will not work until you boot the machine connected
to your corporate network domain. Even if your domain password somehow got
screwed up an admin at work would be able to reset it. Good luck. --- Steve
