Hello,
As far as I know, digital signature feature does not work between different
SQL instances/servers via linked server. You need to map local user to
remote user in linked server as that in SQL 2000.
I think this is a good idea for a future product enhancement though its
implmentatiion might be a little complex since we have to sync
logins/users/certificates/signatures etc between servers. Your feedback on
this is routed to the proper channel. I also encourage you submit via the
link below

You may want to see the following blog of Lcris for more information on SQL
security topics which includes some interesting disussion on signature
feature.

Please let's know if you have any further comments or questions. Thanks.
Best Regards,

Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting
Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) at
