Protecting data against local admin

Hi,

We produce a VB6 application which currently works with SQL Server 2000.

Our application is shipped with a set of data which must not be accessed by the customer directly as it would have significant worth to our competitors.

When we install our application on customers' machines, we use a proprietary whole-server encryption product to protect our data.

We are now intending to move to SQL Server 2005 and would like to use SQL Server's built in encryption. We would also like to avoid having to install our own instance, if possible - so if the customer already uses SQL Server 2005, our database would live on an existing instance. Otherwise, we will install SQL Express.

We would like some protection against a local admin decrypting our data.

My question is: Is it possible to secure against this? If not completely, what sort of protection could we manage with a sensible amount of effort?

Thanks,
Rik
