I am using SQL server 2000. The option you suggest doesn't seem to be
available in this version. I've tried generating a certificate through IIS
and authorising it using certificate authority and installing it. However,
when I try and set up an ODBC connection with strong encryption from a
machine that is outside our firewall it fails (it works with the strong
encryption unticked). Any more ideas would be appreciated thanks
Is it possibly an issue at the firewall then? Without knowing your
configuration it's hard to guess at the problem. Check your configuration
in the Client Network Utility and Server Network Utility.
