Re: XP SP2 uograde to Vista - Access denied to SQL 2005

I've been running SP1 on Vista for a while. The biggest issue is that under Vista by default, you're not an admin. In the past you could assume that since you are an admin you could always log into the local SQL Server because you were part of the sysadmin role. To get around that you have to log into SSMS as an admin (right click on the SSMS icon and select runas administrator) once you are logged in as an admin you can create a login for yourself and grant it whatever permissions you like. Once you have a login, you won't need to run as an admin to get access. SP2 will do this for you automagically but it's not an insurmountable obstacle to create a login for yourself.

Hi!

Because of the difference in the security model of Vista, SQL Server 2005
will not run properly until SP2 of Vista, that is the info I got from a MVP
at Microsoft. I tried to install it too on Vista, refused to work.

As of now, Vista is not a supported OS... sorry to say

kind regards
Henrik

Now Im running SS 2005 standard on XP sp2.
