Hey - i just wanted to chime in here. I'm too running SQL2005 on 2k3
server w/ latest service packs. 95% of the time i am able to use SQL
Management studio to connect to the server and do my queries and
administration. 5% of the time i get the same error message this guy is
getting "SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating
Server/Instance Specified) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)"
During the time i am able to connect i can connect via SMS from other
DBA machines fine. Sometimes they cannot connect either and get the
same message. It is seemingly random. It seems like our production
applications are able to connect via Named Pipes 100% of the time. I'm
seasoned with SQL Server so i know i've made all the correct server side
settings.... any ideas?
