SQL 2005 and SSL

Hello all,
I have installed SQL Server 2005 Standard x64 on a Windows Server 2003
Standard x64. Now that the server is running, I am trying to install a SSL
certificate. I have had no luck. I purchased a certificate for the server
in question, using IIS to generate the request. That seemed absurd to me,
as the ONLY services I want on the box are SQL...but I got over that.

When I select the certificate I want SQL 2005 to use for encryption in
the server configuration manager application and restart the services, SQL
does not run. I get the error:

Unable to load user-specified certificate.
The server will not accept a connection. You should verify that the
certificate is correctly installed. See "Configuring Certificate for Use
by SSL" in Books Online.

Clearly, something is very wrong here. Does anybody know of a guide or
site that CLEARLY details how to install an SSL certificate for SQL Server
2005? Please, unless it is better than the MMC guide that MS had, do not
send it to me. The MMC slapin method isn't working (my cert is already
listed there).
