Re: Windows NT user or group "XX" not found

Well, it looks to me like you must use a NetBIOS domain name with
sp_grantlogin.

The same behavior is found in the SQL Enterprise Manager. Say you're
running on a PDC with a domain name of "yourdomain.com". If you attempt
to create a new login for "yourdomain.com\user", you'll get the same
error.

In order to get this to work, you have to use the NetBIOS domain name
form, as in "yourdomain\user".
