Windows NT user or group "XX" not found

Hello,

I'm attempting to use sp_grantlogin in a custom application installer
that I'm building, and I'm having a problem.

On a Windows Server 2003 PDC, if I invoke sp_grantlogin with an
argument of "pdc.testdomain.com\username" (the argument is actually in
brackets), I get the following error:

"Windows NT user or group 'pdc.testdomain.com\username' not found.
Check the name again."

Oddly enough, if I use the NetBIOS domain name in the form of
"pdc\username", it works.

What I need to know is - why? I've scoured through the "normal" MS
knowledge base articles on this particular error, and nothing seems to
fit. Am I overlooking something obvious here?

- MR

.
