Re: SQL 2K Install - Local User for Services does not work...

My services do not run under the Local System account. As an example,
let's say my machine name is MACHINENAME and my local, non-admin
account is named NONADMIN.
During the installation of SQL2K, if you choose the Custom Install
option, you are prompted for the Service Account information. You can
choose either "Local System Account" or specify a "Domain Account". I
chose the Domain Account and entered NONADMIN as the user name, entered
the password, and entered MACHINENAME as the domain name. According to
what I've read, the installation should have set the appropriate
permissions on any directories and registry keys as necessary. After
the installation completed, I was unable to get the SQL Services to
start up.
However, if I added MACHINENAME\NONADMIN to the BUILTIN\Administrators
group on the machine, the services would start right up. That is how I
figured out that it must be a permissions problem. So, I removed
MACHINENAME\NONADMIN from the BUILTIN\Administrators group, and I went
through all of the directories and registry keys to make sure the
correct permissions were set (I may not have a good list, because each
site seems to mention different directories and keys). Still, I was
unable to start the services.
I tried this on another machine as well, but I used an actual Domain
account and had the same results.
Hope this helps explain it better.
Jeremy
