    Actually the database is Access 2000

    I looked at the 3 links you provided.

    The first one says to install the latest Jet service pack on the server, I
    did that

    The second one says to create a folder "in the operating system installation
    directory". I assume that to be c:\winnt. I created the folder c:\winnt\temp
    and gave 'everyone' full control. I also set temp and tmp envir variables to
    that folder.

    The third link deals with connection to an Access DB from asp. I am using
    the linked server functionality of SQL to avoid this whole issue.

    When I use enterprise manager to browse the linked server from the SQL
    server machine I can see the tables in the database. When I try to browse the
    same linked server from my dev workstation I get the error 'Error 7399: OLE
    DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error.
    OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0'
    IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: ].'

    This seems to be a related problem.
