Sudden failure to connect to remote SQL Server from Enterprise Man

A remote SQL Server has been in my local SQL Server Group for almost two
years now and everything has worked fine, but starting this afternoon I have
been unable to connect to it; the error message I get is "SQL Server does not
exist or access denied. ConnectionOpen(Connect())". The registration uses
Windows authentication, and I have verified that my username and password are
synchronized on the local and remote systems; I have also verified that the
remote SQL Server is running and that I can connect to it from another
desktop using identical registration properties for the remote Server. I have
searched the Event logs and the SQL Server log on the remote server and
cannot find any entries relating to my failed connection attempts. I have
deleted the SQL Server registration in an effort to recreate it, and now the
attempt to re-register the remote SQL Server fails with the same error
message. I have no idea what would have changed on either the local or remote
system to cause this problem. I will gratefully entertain any suggestions for
solving this problem. Thanks in advance...
