    Changing the machine name after installing MSDE will affect the server.

    Run sp_helpserver and see what it reports back.

    The new machine name should have the ID of 0.

    use sp_dropserver and sp_addserver to correct this.

    Then change any clientside application strings or DSN's you may have
    previously used.
