Here's the situation....A website was developed by another firm and hosted
on their in-house server. It uses a sql-server database. I have since
taken over on-going development. We moved the site and database to a server
with which I am a reseller....a host located across the country. I need to
work on the database to add some fields, lengthen other fields, etc. But
I've discovered that some fields are not encrypted that I feel should be.
Using an Access Project or Enterprise Manager to access the info could
compromise the info with packet sniffers and whatever other means hackers
have available. How can I access the database securely to make the changes
short of temporarily shutting down the site and having the host send me the
database on disc? Browsers use SSL for transferring the info back and forth
between servers and clients. Does SQL Server has something similar for
securely connecting to a database?
Hope this explains it a little better. I will check out the info you
provided.
Thanks,
Mickey
