Sql access from Internet

Hi!
We have a web-application with a sqlw2k-db inside the firewall.
If we want to have access to the application from the Internet also, wich is
the best and most secure way to do this?
We already have a webserver in the dmz, but do we have to put the
sql-database there to? Or can we open the sql-port on the firewall from the
Internet-webserver to the sql-db inside the firewall?
