I installed MSDE on XP Pro in Windows Authentication mode. I
created an administrator account on this computer and an
identical administrator account on another XP Pro machine. With
both server computer and client computer logged into these admin
accounts, the client machine will not connect in Windows
Authentication mode. This is a workgroup, not a domain.
I was able to make the registry change to allow mixed mode
authentication and everything works but I'd like to have an
explanation of what other factors could possibly prevent Windows
Authentication in this situation.
I have another XP Pro box that serves MSDE using Windows
Authentication in a workgroup with no problems.
