Sounds to me that maybe you are giving access to the incorrect account.
Mydomain\Joe and Joe are 2 separate account.
Mydomain\Joe is a domain account and Joe is SQL account. Check the
properties of the users in the 2 databases. Verify that the login name on
the properties tab is the same. This will tell you if the user is in fact
the same in both databases.
