Hello,
Could someone clarify the Linked Server Properties - Security tab for
me? I didn't find BOL or online help that clear.
I've got SQL Server running on two machines in the same network. On
each machine I've defined a Local Group (someusers) and added my
network username (authority\principal) to it. Then using Enterprise
Manager I added someusers as a login to both machines. On the remote
machine, someusers was the db owner of the database I wanted to
access.
On the remote machine I added a SQL Server login SQLUSER\SQLUSER.
I then tried experimenting with the Security Tab. The only thing I
could get working was by having no mappings and "be made using the
login's current security context" option set - in other words NTLM (I
think).
I guess my question is what other options will work - I thought I
could map someusers (locally) to the (remote) SQLUSER\SQLUSER login
password using the table at the top of the tab but that bounced.
When reading the help I get confused when they refer to
"login/password' - are they talking NTLM or SQL Server Authentication?
When I read "security context" I think NT authentication.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.
DEM
